Last week we looked at why you’d want to set goals, and how to go about it (link here) but it’s not always that easy.

Stuck for ideas

Are you still undecided about what goals can look like? We’ve put together a few ideas to help you out.

Short-term goals (weeks, months, 1 year)

  • Get homework and assignments done on time
  • Research options after high school – Universities, degrees, alternative pathways including TAFE, private colleges, apprenticeships and traineeships
  • Study for driver’s license, book lessons & schedule practise time
  • Get healthy – monitor sleep, make better food choices, exercise more (& consistently), spend more time outdoors
  • Spend more quality time with family and friends
  • Invest in relationships that make me feel good
  • Get an “A” in my favourite subject at school
  • Research resume writing
  • Improve my interpersonal skills
  • Get apart-timee job
  • Volunteer
  • Contribute more at home

Medium- term goals (1-5 years)

  • Save up to buy a car
  • Get work experience – preferably in a field related to chosen career
  • Run a marathon
  • Apply for University / Apprenticeships / Traineeships / find a job
  • Graduate from University
  • Write a resume, keep it updated and work on getting skills and experience that will enhance my resume
  • Learn a new language
  • Take a gap year and travel

Long-term goals (5-10 years)

  • Embark on a career that will make me happy
  • Compete in State / National sports
  • Live and work overseas
  • Continued learning in my field of interest even when I am working
  • Complete a degree
  • Get promoted at work
  • Put a deposit on my own home

 

It’s all about YOU

The ideas we’ve listed are pretty generic, they’re just to inspire you to think about what your goals could be.

So have a think about what you love, what makes you happy and the kind of life you’d like to end up living and go from there. There is no right or wrong.
