From 2018, The State Government of Victoria requires all students who wish to enrol in accredited Initial Teacher Education courses to complete a personal attributes test as part of an application for admission. These degrees equip you to be formally accredited for teaching in schools.
Should you wish to enrol in the following La Trobe accredited teacher education courses you will need to complete a CASPer (Computer-Based Assessment for Sampling Personal Characteristics) test as part of application for admission. All universities will require testing of a similar kind on their initial teacher education.
- Bachelor of Education (Primary)/(Secondary)
- Master of Teaching (Primary)
- Master of Teaching (Secondary)
- Bachelor of Technology Education
- Bachelor of Early Childhood & Primary Education
The State Government also requires student teachers to complete the Literacy and Numeracy test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) before graduation and prior to seeking accreditation with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT). The costs associated with completing these tests are not included in course fees.
1. What is the CASPer test?
The CASPer test is an online screening tool designed to evaluate key personal and professional characteristics.
2. Why do I need to complete a CASPer test?
Traditional evaluations of personal characteristics (e.g. standard interviews, reference letters and personal essays) have shown to be ineffective in discerning good applicants. CASPer increases fairness in applicant evaluation by providing admissions and selection committees with a reliable measure of traits like professionalism, ethics, communication, and empathy.
3. What are the test dates?
Sem 1, 2019 Test dates to be confirmed https://takecasper.com/test-dates/
CASPer can only be written once for Australian Education between September 1st and August 31st of any given year.
