OP to ATAR – what it means

Overall Position (OP) is being phased out and the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) will be introduced for students commencing Year 11 in 2019, who will graduate from the end of 2020 (starting tertiary courses from 2021).

The ATAR is used in other states and territories already and will bring Queensland in line with them.

Calculated by QTAC, ATARs are a score that’s used to assess a students eligibility for entry into tertiary courses.

It also provides a way for tertiary educators to assess students Year 12 marks compared with other students who did different subjects, or different levels of the same subject.

Here’s a short video QTAC have made that explains more.
