National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a series of tests focused on basic skills that are administered annually to Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 Australian students.
Students are tested on reading, writing, language conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.
The tests are designed to determine whether students across the board are meeting the expected outcomes, in line with current curriculums and teaching methods.
The results from the NAPLAN tests help improve schools and teaching, transparency and accountability within the education system.
