Some Universities have programs that allow high school students to take University Units whilst you’re still at high school.
They’re designed to do a few things:
- Encourage you to pursue a tertiary education
- Get a taste for a course and see whether you like it (or not)
- Ease your transition from Year 12 into Uni
Some of the courses will even give you credits towards your first year at Uni, that could mean you have less work to do once you get there.
Programs in Victoria include:
Extension Program at University of Melbourne – Designed for high achieving students looking for a challenge. It’s free to join and through the program you’ll be able to study university subjects alongside your final year of high-school. It’s FREE to join, could boost your ATAR and earn credit towards your degree. It’ll also look fantastic on your resume.
Dates for the 2020 cohort haven’t been published yet, but last year applications opened in mid-September, so keep an eye on the website. Applications closed in mid-December and Semester 1 classes start at the beginning of March.
Uni Melbourne – Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program is an academic enrichment program designed to support high achieving Victorian Year 11 and Year 12, and select secondary students living close to the New South Wales and South Australian borders. Experience university life and take part in a range of academic events and activities, plus get a head start on your future studies and career.
When you finish your secondary studies, you could also be offered a guaranteed place in an undergraduate degree, financial assistance to move to Melbourne, and an overseas scholarship during your studies. Applications open Monday 2 September 2019
ACU – Uni Step-Up study a first-year unit while you’re still in Year 11 or Year 12. Study options available in Victoria. Credit is given to students who enter ACU in the future, choosing a relevant path of study. Contact 02 9701 4606 for more information or to register your interest.
Monash – Monash Extension for high achieving Year 12 students give you a taste of uni before finishing school – and you’ll be rewarded for it. You’ll boost your ATAR and complete two first year university subjects as part of your final year of school studies. Applications for 2020 will open in early October.
