If you’re looking for a way to volunteer and make a difference to people’s lives, then you could try out the Be My Eyes app. It’s free app and has been designed to connect blind and low-vision people all around the world, with sighted volunteers and company representatives for visual assistance through a live video call.
At the moment there are a lot of volunteers, far outweighing the number of users subscribing to the app, but that’s ok, you may get a call and you may not.
The idea is that if one volunteer can’t answer – say you’re at school, or work, or asleep (different time zones), the person who needs your help can easily try the next volunteer on the list.
It costs nothing, it could help you to feel good about yourself and it’ll most definitely help out the people who need it the most.
Check with you parents or carers that they on board with it, and check out the FAQ’s and security information before you go ahead.
Find out more about the app here https://www.bemyeyes.com/, read about how it got started, or read a heart warming story from one volunteer.
If this idea doesn’t work for you, have a look at our volunteering page and see if you get any inspiration from there. Otherwise reach out to your local community and find out how you can help out.
