Digital Marketing
Manage online and social media marketing campaigns for business and industry. While you may not need any formal qualifications to secure a job, a degree or diploma will make you more competitive.
Doctors
Expect a highly competitive entry process, but a career in medicine could be extremely rewarding. You’ll need to carefully consider the prerequisites for the programs you want to apply for, as they can vary.
Research
Research new treatments and work with doctors, pharmacologists, biomedical scientists and other professionals. Most jobs require university level qualifications, but there are some roles for lab and research assistants which start with a traineeship.
Allied Health
Allied health professionals work alongside doctors and other health practitioners to prevent, diagnose and treat a range of conditions. You could work as a physiotherapist, podiatrist, dentist, dietitian, midwife, or sonographer, for example.
Mental Health
Support individuals to care for their mental health with a career in this field. Some roles, such as psychology, require a high level of university education, and you’ll need to study English at school to qualify. You could also get started with a mental health or counselling degree or certificate.
IT Support
Help individuals and organisations manage their software and online systems. You can find courses at the diploma and degree level which will give you the skills and knowledge you need to start your career.
Tech and Software Development
Design and create software systems and be part of the growing tech sector. You’ll need practical skills and in this industry your experience counts. Fast track your career with a degree in software, or look for a VET qualification to get you started.
Online Security
Protect people and organisations from online cyber threats in this field. You could work for large corporations or government organisations, and you’ll most likely need a university level qualification to find a role.
HR and Recruitment
Recruitment specialists find new staff for their own or other organisations, and Human Resource staff manage existing staff. It may be possible to work in recruitment with no formal qualification, but most roles in HR will require a university level qualification.
Architecture
Architecture is a competitive and highly specialised field, and you’ll need a university qualification before you can start work. Draftspeople and building designers need a VET qualification.
Beauty
Help others feel amazing and look their best with a career in haircare or beauty therapy. An apprenticeship or traineeship could help you get started, and you could take a VET course or on the job training to increase your employability. University-level qualifications in nursing or cosmetic care could also be useful.
Events
Organise and host exhibitions, shows, conferences, weddings, performances, festivals and community events. There are entry-level roles available, but most people in this industry have a VET qualification or degree.
Industrial Design
Design and create the items we use in our lives. You may be able to start with a VET qualification, depending on the sub-industry, but most roles require a university degree.
Interior Design
Design and create interior spaces for homes, workplaces, public spaces and institutions. You’ll need a degree to become an interior architect, but could start in the industry with a short course or diploma in interior design.
Law
Help people resolve disputes and understand their rights with a career in law. You may not need any qualifications to begin your career as a legal assistant, but a university degree is required for most legal roles.
