From early childhood, right through to high school and university level teaching, you can build an incredible career helping others achieve their goals. Although challenging at times, teachers often say how rewarding their jobs can be, especially when they see students do more than they ever thought possible.

You could choose to work with small children in early childhood education, teach in a public or private system, or work as an ancillary┬árole, such as a Guidance Counsellor or Teacher’s Aide.

Industry Outlook

Demand for teachers depends on who and what you want to teach, and where you want to teach it.

For example, for some subjects there are lots of qualified teachers who want to work in popular locations, so finding a job may be tricky, but if you’ve trained in a less popular field you may find your skills are highly sought-after.

Right now there is very strong demand for early childhood teachers, childcare workers, and educational aides.

There is also more demand for qualified teachers in rural and remote locations. Some of the state teaching bodies even offer incentives for you to live and teach in a rural location after you graduate.

Do you have what it takes?

Teaching is a caring profession, and anyone who wants to be a teacher can expect to fulfil a range of duties within their role. Teachers need to be flexible and adapt to the needs of the students, rather than rigid to fit their own ideas, and your training will be both theoretical and practical.
