The hospitality and travel industries are always in demand however they can be cyclical – changing depending on everything from environmental issues (cyclone damage in Far North Qld that may reduce visitor numbers) to the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games (huge increase in visitor numbers).
Tourism is expected to grow strongly over the next 20 years according to Deloitte Access Economics due to older generations retiring and spending money on experiences. This includes everything from increased airline travel to hotel accommodation to cruises.
With quality skills such as a trade (qualified chef/bar attendant/management/dive instructor), you can often find work and have opportunities available to you no matter where you go in the world. Whilst the pay in some of these fields may not be as strong as construction or IT, the roles certainly make up for it with experiences.
