The Medical Council of Tasmania, upon its dissolution in 2010, provided the University of Tasmania Foundation with a $1 million gift to endow scholarships for deserving Tasmanian students to study medicine at the University. The University, through its Foundation provided a further $150,000.
$10,000 per year for up to five years. To retain this award, recipients are required to study full-time; achieve a minimum Pass result in all units studied and make satisfactory academic progress each semester; and not be in receipt of another scholarship from the University of Tasmania.
Available to a student who has completed the majority of their secondary schooling in Tasmania, can demonstrate financial need, is an Australian citizen, Permanent Resident or Humanitarian Visa Holder, and is commencing the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree in 2020. It is expected that shortlisted applicants will be interviewed in the second week of January.
